Trekfa Adventure and MyBushwalks is a non-commercial member based northern suburbs bushwalking and kayaking group established for people of similar interests through their love and appreciation of the great outdoors. The groupís prime objective is to bring together people of an average age who can enjoy and appreciate good quality activities together while sharing a common bond through outdoor adventure. The groupís structure is designed in such a way, that it can pass on savings to its members which the commercial organisations are unable to do..
The types of activities available will hopefully introduce you to a Spirit of Discovery while adding some Fun & Fitness into your life. Established in February 2006, Trekfa Adventure has achieved its success through the individuality of its participants, the development of friendships and the quality of those participants who are attracted to the group.
Principal Leader: (Greg Williams)
Our main walks leader has had a vast number of years in leadership experience including many years of co-ordinating walks and activities for other organisations. His experience has included hundreds of daywalks including many walks to remote destinations and long distant treks of up to 260 kilometers. His most recent achievement was to lead an overnight trek party for a summit camp on the Mount Bowen massif which is situated on Hinchinbrook Island in the Wet Tropics of North Queensland. Incidently, the incredible gruelling trek from the base camp to Mount Bowen is presented in the award winning book entitled '1000 things to do before you die'.
Furthermore, Greg is extremely passionate about the environment and conservation issues and is a strong promoter and advocate in the use of safe and sustainable practices, the preservation of our natural bushland areas and its cultural heritage, and understands the need to keep our native lands unmodified so that future generations can have and experience the same enjoyment as we do. Greg is always happy to impart his experiences and knowledge to you and will often be seen running forums or educational workshops in conjunction with the activities.
His current employment and interests extends from the marine industry, consultancy work with other recreational bodies plus managing and co-ordinating bushwalks and trekking expeditions for a variety of outdoor organisations. And, on other occasions he has worked with National Parks both here and in Queensland providing valuable information on track conditions and safety.
Greg also has gained many sporting achievements and has always had an instinct for a challenge. Growing up he excelled in soccer where he played at representative level then later took his sailing career to new heights at both State and National levels taking out an Austalian Pointscore Championship, a State Title including numerous wins in other championship events.
Other areas in Greg's life include his passion for fundraising. During the last 20 years he has raised much needed funds for CareFlight and various other organisations and with the success of Trekfa will no doubt see further funds going to assist worthwhile charities.
Most of our activities are tailored to a moderate impact aerobic level and are destined to put some of that old fashion FUN & FITNESS back into your life.. |The Trekfa Team
Trekfa is a not for profit community based outdoor recreational group that was established through a group of friends that have a close connection with the outdoors through the preservation of flora and fauna, and who have a vision to share their education and experiences with others.
The club was formed in February 2006 and now boasts a solid membership base of like-minded people who participate in the clubís activities.
Its leaders are all volunteers who have given their time most generously throughout the years. The clubís principal leader, with over 18 years of outdoor recreational leadership experience continues to assist the club with the co-ordination of the events ensuring that all safety and risk management policies are adhered to. Our leaders, through their tieless work have helped guide the clubís members to hundreds of amazing locations throughout Sydney, Blue Mountains and Interstate.
Trekfa too, has an absolute unblemished safety record which has been achieved through its risk policies and the safe co-ordination and management of its events.
The clubís successful bushwalking/outdoor safety elements which have been devised and written by the Trekfa team have been so successful that other groups have adopted them for their own use.
The team is always passionate about ensuring that the club has an enjoyable and fun time while participating by giving its members the correct balance between adventure and safety.
Their passion too is to introduce its members to some of our areasí hidden treasures, to seek out some of their wilder places and to encourage members to accept new and exciting challenges.
Not only is Trekfa a recreational group, it is a charitable organisation raising thousands of dollars for charity, and unlike other institutions, Trekfa is able to present to the charity 100% of its fundraising dollars due to the volunteering roles of its members.
